the sutra-keeping hall, also known buddhism chapel, is located on the axel line behind mahaviro hall, being a place for the eminent monk to disseminate buddhism and store the classic buddhist scriptures. currently, ti reserves thousands of classics such as all china, dragon scripture, dazheng scripture, korean scripture and others. as per stele record, it was built during the period of the yuan dynasty (1341-1368).



before destroyed by shi yousan in 1928, it had damo’ s shadow stone, musical instruments and over 5, 000 copies of the buddhist scriptures including ming dynasty tripitaka. but now only the hall base and 14 wall pillars remain.

 

the current sutra-keeping pavilion was designed and rebuilt, as per available materials, during the period from 1992 to 1993 on the original site. on the buddha niche is the white jade sleeping buddha (7 meters long and 16.5 tons in weight) donated by burma lay buddhist in 1997. the hall has now reserved some wood carved scriptures from the third year of qing kangxi (1664). “sutra-keeping pavilion” outside the hall was the handwriting of zhao puchu, urging people to make reference with the history and protect the classics  and treasures.
