at 8 am on december 1, 2021, zambia shaolin cultural center successfully hosted the light-opening and purification ceremony of the buddhist image presided over by master yanlun, head of the cultural center. there a total of more than 30 people from all levels of society in zambia attended the assembly.

masters, students and believers from the zambia shaolin cultural center respectfully invited master yanlun to preside over the assembly under the guidance of master yantao before it started. then master yanlun burned incense and presided over the assembly, purified the religious site with holy water and devoutly opened the light for the buddhist image.

believers invited master yanlun gave a dharma teaching at the end of the assembly. master yanlun said shaolin temple always contributes to carrying forward and promoting traditional chinese culture. all shaolin cultural centers established around the world aim to better carry forward shaolin culture and traditional chinese culture and serve more sentient beings. he also mentioned zambia shaolin cultural center would actively conduct activities including charity, relief, kungfu teaching and so on, hoping that every one could delightfully attend and benefit from that.

ambassadors from 28 countries of africa in china visited shaolin temple for exchanges on april 4 in 1998, and uniformly advocated it was hoped that shaolin culture could enter africa and benefit local people in africa. thereafter shaolin temple has certain links with many countries of africa. it sends shaolin kungfu monks to teach in countries of africa or establishes a good exchanges and cooperation relationship with them, which receives a warm welcome from local people and governments.

in 2013, the ministry of culture and tourism and some embassies from african countries communicated many times and finally decided starting the program on the class of kungfu students from africa in china and would conduct training courses in shaolin temple. shaolin temple and the ministry of culture and tourism jointly hold the training class of kungfu students from africa annually. these students usually have a three-month study and practice life in shaolin temple of china. the content includes shaolin kungfu, chan cultivation, chinese, calligraphy, chan medical and medicine and so on. these students continue carrying forward shaolin culture and traditional chinese culture after returning home, also enjoying a warm reception.

master yanlun also mentioned abbot shi yongxin greatly supports the development and construction of the zambia shaolin cultural center and puts forward some constructive suggestions. he expressed they would live up to master shi yongxin’ s expectation, play a full role of bridge and tie, improve friendship between china and african countries, and write a new chapter of cultural exchanges between china and africa.
